Research Fellow in machine-learning enabled digital forensics

Fixed term, full-time 36-month position available

About the position

We are seeking a Research Fellow with experience in machine learning research and development, particularly with a specialisation in such areas as: digital forensics, computer vision, biometrics (face or voice recognition, etc.) and natural language processing.

The Research Fellow will join a multi-institutional team of researchers involved in an ARC Linkage Project (LP240200944) that will deliver new digital forensic capabilities for police – particularly in the context of enhancing child sexual abuse investigations. This work will be delivered in partnership with South Australia Police, the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and Deakin University. About the Adelaide Cybercrime Laboratory

The Adelaide Cybercrime Laboratory is an interdisciplinary team of researchers and based at the University of Adelaide, with partners around the world. We are involved in a wide range of research projects that seek to understand why individuals engage in cybercrime, and develop tools to prevent, detect and investigate cybercrimes. Our work aims to inform public policy, and promote safe digital environment.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD in Forensic Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Criminology or related area (or near completion).
  • A record of high-quality research outputs, including publications, commensurate to opportunity.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python, including data handling and backend development.
  • Demonstrated experience developing applications interfacing with machine learning libraries like PyTorch or ONNX.
  • Demonstrated experience working with large-scale data processing and deployment (local and cloud) including SQL database technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent complex data findings into simple, compelling visualisations and narratives for non-technical users.
