About the role

This position co-ordinates and delivers the Basic and Clinical Sciences (BCS) component of the teaching in Years 1 and 2 (Foundation Years) of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in Sydney.

Key Responsibilities

Co-ordinating and teaching of the BCS curriculum within the Foundation Years, including lectures, laboratory sessions, tutorials, or other activities for the School.

Training, briefing and supervising the lab tutors and demonstrators in delivering the practical and workshops teaching activities.

Leading in planning and updating the BCS curriculum, including development and updating of lectures, laboratory activities, tutorials and online teaching resources.

Innovation in the design of teaching, including use of learning technologies.

Systematic and integrated development of teaching practices informed by scholarship/research for program.

Co-ordinating with the assessment team ensuring the development, alignment, blueprinting, evaluation and renewal of high-quality assessment items in the BCS Domain for exams and continuous assessments, conducting and marking exams. Leads implementation of effective assessment practices.

Effective practice in embedding principles of pastoral care, cultural diversity, equality, indigenous culture and traditions, support for students with disabilities and special needs.

Working with the (National) Curriculum team in aligning the learning objectives in BCS domain with the National Curriculum.

Leads review of student engagement data resulting in changes in teaching practice and student outcomes at School level.

Qualifications, skills & experience

A PhD or Fellowship is preferred. A minimum of a Master’s degree, or a Fellowship of the College, or equivalent professional experience is required, along with an undergraduate qualification at minimum.

Experience in teaching at Masters level or higher or in medical, health sciences or professional practice based education settings.

Demonstrated experiences in delivering high quality learning and teaching practices in multiple modes including online delivery.

Proven ability to work as an effective member of a team and experience in leading a team.

Experience in collaborative-based learning environments.

Evidence of a high level of pastoral care to students.

A keen interest in maintaining currency in scholarship and professional practice in the relevant discipline.

Demonstrated experience incorporating innovative technology into teaching and learning (e.g. Blackboard, Zoom, H5P, email, internet).

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
