About This Opportunity

Join UQ's Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) to develop and refine innovative AI-guided breeding methodologies in collaboration with diverse project partners.

In this position, you will work across multiple crop species to advance breeding approaches for a range of high-value target traits. You will contribute to UQ's cutting-edge AI-guided breeding pipeline, developing and implementing methodologies to rapidly integrate beneficial genetic variation into elite germplasm. This will require the integration and optimization of several technologies, including genomics, machine learning, genetic simulation, and speed breeding.

The role will also have the opportunity to be affiliated with the UQ-led ARC Training Centre in Predictive Breeding.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research: Contribute to an innovative research program in quantitative genetics and genomics, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and support training in predictive breeding, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.
  • Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
