About the team:
Located in the Planning and Regulation Department, the City Inspectorate Branch is responsible for enforcement of the City’s standards and local laws, across building community, public safety and environmental health compliance to protect the safety and amenity for the City’s residents and visitors. You will be working within a supportive and driven team whilst having the support of great line leaders.
About your new role:
We are seeking a Senior Building Compliance Officer to join a team passionate about ensuring the City of Gold Coast remains a safe and liveable City. You will provide high level technical and administrative support by assisting in monitoring Development Compliance Section workflows, and investigation of allegations, disputes and customer requests in relation to compliance with the legislative requirements and regulations. You will carry out a variety of building compliance tasks, including but not limited to:
Carry out and document site inspections and investigations.
Manage customer requests received internally or externally in relation to various building compliance matters.
Investigate requests by reviewing the applicable legislation, development approvals and plans as required.
Prepare file notes/ inspection reports, correspondence, notices and letters, in accordance with Development Compliance processes.
Carry out enforcement action while maintaining a high level of customer service.
Other duties that may be directed by the supervisor or management.
Provide mentoring, coaching and support to staff in all technical, decision making and customer service aspects.
Provide backup to supervisory role when necessary.
We're looking for people who:
Have a Bachelor’s degree in building surveying or equivalent knowledge and or experience highly desirable
Hold a Drivers Licence Class C Unrestricted
Hold a WHS Licence General Construction (White Card) or is willing to obtain one.
Have knowledge of the Planning Act, Building Act, and Building Code of Australia is highly desirable.
Have experience in building compliance, or other relevant fields with additional experience in Regulatory Enforcement highly regarded.
Have a positive and energetic outlook and enjoy working within a team.
Have demonstrated skills in consultation, negotiation and mediation.
Experience and passion for mentoring others within a team
Excellent level of documentation and written communication skills
The ability to prioritise and manage numerous investigations.
