Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated specialised technical knowledge, skill and expertise in performing contemporary infectious diseases molecular diagnostic assays and managing the day-to-day technical operations in the laboratory.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge, expertise, and skill in applying the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement, and a high-level understanding of laboratory quality control and quality assurance programs.
- Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively as a team member under the direction of more senior practitioners, producing an effective work output and quality.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to comply with organisational policies and procedures, and assist the laboratory to comply with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards including meeting NATA / NPAAC/ ISO / TGA accreditation / certification requirements.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold at least a relevant tertiary degree qualification (or equivalent degree) in Medical laboratory science, Microbiology, Molecular biology or related discipline.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualifications. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
- Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements
- It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
- Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
- Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
