About the role:
Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Privacy, you will work with limited supervision to lead and manage complex privacy matters including complaints, breaches, and investigations. You will apply your skills in governance, statutory interpretation, complaints management, and project delivery to advise on business initiatives and ensure alignment with privacy legislation and best practice.
Key responsibilities:
• Manage and resolve privacy complaints, breaches and investigations in line with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and OIR's governance and complaints management frameworks.
• Provide expert advice and risk-based assessments on projects and business initiatives involving personal information, including leading Privacy ImpactAssessments.
• Contribute to privacy-related governance and compliance work, including drafting policies, procedures, and operational guidance.
• Interpret and apply relevant legislation and policy to support consistent decision making and risk mitigation.
• Design and deliver engaging in-house training sessions to build staff capability and awareness around privacy, complaint handling, and statutory obligations.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying trends, risks, and gaps, and implementing proactive solutions.
• Contribute to policy submissions, reports, and governance documentation relevant to privacy and information management.
About the team:
The Right to Information and Privacy team is a small, collaborative group of specialists providing expert advice and decision-making across the Office of Industrial Relations.
We're seeking an experienced professional with:
• Demonstrated experience in managing privacy matters, statutory interpretation, and policy implementation.
• Strong communication, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proven ability to manage sensitive complaints and investigations with discretion and objectivity.
• Experience developing and delivering in-house training and resources.
• Knowledge of governance, risk, and compliance principles in a regulatory environment.
• The ability to contribute to cross-functional projects and influence outcomes in a complex organisation.
• Most importantly a positive can-do attitude
