What you will be doing
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Design and Production, the Design Manager (Visual Communications) is responsible for driving the implementation of design standards and provides specialist support and leadership to the team of Designers. Subsequently, this role is a key support in ensuring the outputs of the team are unified and delivered to a consistently high standard.
The Design Manager (Visual Communications) applies their knowledge and skill by driving complex design projects and initiatives. This includes development and implementation of concept proposals, evaluation and reporting, presentations, creative briefs and business cases.
Below are some of the key activities you'll be taking on in this role:
Lead strategic design initiatives that shape the development of the VEC's visual design standards, aligning with organisational goals and future-focused innovation.
Facilitate and support design workshops, synthesising insights into actionable outcomes and contributing to technical and evaluation reporting.
Manage complex design projects end-to-end, from problem framing and ideation through to prototyping, testing, and implementation of visual communication solutions.
Lead a multidisciplinary design team, providing expert guidance to ensure high-quality, consistent delivery of brand assets, design templates and electoral materials..
Apply research and data analysis to inform the development and continuous improvement of the team's practice and outputs
Evaluate the effectiveness of design outputs, using metrics and feedback to measure impact and inform improvements.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define requirements, negotiate design solutions, and ensure alignment with operational and strategic needs.
Oversee artwork production and quality assurance, acting as a key escalation point and championing brand and design standards across all public-facing materials.
Actively support and promote the objectives of the Branch and demonstrate the VEC's Values.
Understand and observe the VEC code of conduct, VEC policies, guidelines and procedures, and risk standard procedures

What you will bring to the role
Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of high-quality visual communications
Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills with a diverse team
Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet and deliver against critical deadlines
Highly developed verbal, written and visual communication skills
Qualifications in design or a similar discipline are desirable in conjunction with demonstrated experience in a similar role
A comprehensive understanding of the design process as it relates to this role, and showcased in your application portfolio submission
