Carer and Family Support Team Leader
At Karuna, we believe in walking alongside people with life-limiting illness and their families, helping them live fully with comfort, dignity, and peace. Guided by compassion, respect, and connection, our team has been providing specialist in-home and community-based palliative care for over 30 years.
We are looking for a full-time Carer and Family Support Team Leader to join our close-knit and highly skilled team.
Why Karuna?
Karuna is a respected, values-driven community organisation guided by Buddhist principles and committed to alleviating suffering. We provide specialist palliative care and holistic support that honours dignity, compassion, and choice, in alignment with our values of Kindness, Humility, Respect, and Courage. Join a team that values innovation, collaboration, and deeply human care.
The Opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced, values-driven Carer and Family Support Team Leader to provide strategic and operational leadership across our Social Work, Spiritual Care, and Carer Support Programs.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a high-level leader to influence service excellence, strengthen governance, and champion continuous improvement in a trusted community organisation with a long-standing reputation for compassionate care.
What You’ll Do
As a valued member of Karuna’s Community Services Team, you will:
Lead, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary team of social workers, carer support, and spiritual care practitioners.
Oversee the coordination, quality, and governance of services that support carers and families through illness, death, and bereavement.
Triage and process referrals in collaboration with the Community Services Leadership Team.
Drive process improvement and data integrity across service delivery and reporting frameworks.
Ensure ethical, culturally responsive, and evidence-based practice.
Strengthen partnerships and represent Karuna in key committees and community networks.
Lead with humility, kindness, respect, and courage — values that guide everything we do.
As part of the Leadership Team, for business continuity purposes, there is an expectation that you will be available outside of normal business hours.
What You’ll Bring
You’re a confident and compassionate leader with a deep understanding of psychosocial and spiritual care in palliative or community settings. You combine operational rigour with heart — balancing data-driven decision making with human connection.
You'll bring:
Minimum five years’ advanced clinical experience in community or palliative care.
Proven leadership in team management and performance development.
Experience in providing Clinical and Non-clinical Supervision.
Strong governance, reporting, and quality improvement experience including data interpretation and skills in Excel and Power BI.
High-level communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
A passion for leading with integrity and inspiring others through purpose-driven work.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
A current Queensland Driver’s Licence.
What We Offer
At Karuna, you will find more than a workplace - you’ll find a place where your specialist expertise, curiosity, and care for others are deeply valued.
Join a well-established, community-based organisation with a compassionate culture and modern vision for growth.
Lead meaningful change in a service that honours the dignity of life and death.
Enjoy a supportive environment that values reflection, learning, and wellbeing.
As a not-for-profit (charitable) organisation, we’re proud to offer team members access to salary packaging benefits which may enable you to increase your take-home pay, subject to your personal circumstances.
A police check will be required for this role—we’ll arrange and cover the cost.
Apply Now
If you’re ready to join a caring and compassionate team and make a lasting impact in community palliative care, we’d love to hear from you.
📨 Please send your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and suitability for both Karuna and the role.
