About the role
Diamantina Shire Council is currently recruiting for a Finance Coordinator to join our Corporate Services – Finance Team. In this dynamic role, you’ll:
🚀 Plays a pivotal leadership role in directing and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Finance function. This includes ensuring that all financial activities are conducted efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with organisational policies and statutory requirements.
🤝 Work closely with Director of Corporate Services and the Executive Leadership Team to support strategic financial planning, provide high-level financial advice, and contribute to informed decision-making that promotes the long-term financial sustainability and accountability of the organisation.
🎉 The incumbent is responsible for supervising finance staff and subordinate personnel, providing appropriate training, guidance, and performance management. Duties include the delegation and oversight of individual responsibilities in accordance with each team member’s position description, fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, and operational excellence.
🌏 Identify opportunities to enhance financial systems, reporting tools, and workflows for greater efficiency and accuracy across the Finance Section and the organisation.
What we're looking for: Essential and Desirable
Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline (or working towards).
Experience in asset accounting, valuation, Queensland rating and fleet or plant financial management.
Experience working within a small or remote Queensland local government environment.
Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Queensland Local Government finance or accounting.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Queensland Local Government rating system, including rates processing, reconciliations, and statutory compliance
Strong understanding of the Local Government Act 2009, Local Government Regulation 2012, and Australian Accounting Standards
Proven ability to prepare end-of-month reconciliations
High level of competence in financial systems, preferably SynergySoft, and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
Working knowledge of established Local Government work practices, procedures, policies, and regulations
Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring skills with the ability to build team capability
