The Role
As Director ACT Accommodation Strategy, you will lead a team to develop and implement a long-term strategy to optimise Defence’s office accommodation in the ACT. This strategy aligns to the Department of Finance Commonwealth Property Management Framework, Defence’s National Accommodation Management Policy and Defence Office Accommodation Guidelines.
Your team will use existing plans and data to assess risks and opportunities across Defence owned and leased estate in the ACT, working closely with stakeholders and service providers.
Your role involves driving enterprise-wide engagement, improving business processes, and using evidence to influence decisions. You will identify ways to modernise accommodation, reduce leased footprint, and maximise building use.

The ACT Accommodation Strategy is being delivered in stages, with Stage 2 currently underway (out to the end of 2027) and Stage 3 currently in development (beyond 2028).
About our Team
Estate Transformation Division (ETD) supports collaboration across Defence to strengthen the Defence Estate. Property Management Branch works closely with groups and services from across our organisation to support the delivery of a safe, secure, fit for purpose and resilient Defence estate in the ACT. We engage broadly across the Commonwealth to ensure compliance with property related legislation and policy, and to ensure transparency in our mandated reporting. Our Ideal Candidate
Our ideal candidate will have experience in property and estate related matters, including delivering strategic outcomes in a large and complex environment. Ideally, you will have experience developing and delivering a long-term office accommodation strategy.
Your key attributes will be strong communication and negotiation skills, analytical skills, and the ability to develop and implement strategy. Candidates should have experience leading teams, influencing senior decisions, and translating strategy into action. Our ideal candidate will be resilient in order to lead their team to deliver outcomes for the enterprise. You will be accountable for the development and implementation of a strategy that uplifts and optimises Defence’s use of office accommodation and reduces overall cost to Defence into the future. Legislative, financial and policy drivers will shape the direction, and you will work closely with Defence’s Property Services Provider, internal and external stakeholders to improve business process.
