About the Role
The Rheumatology Psychologist is an experienced clinician, responsible for providing clinical/health psychology assessment and intervention to outpatients of the Service, in order to achieve better health outcomes for patients.
This position requires a clinician with the capacity to work autonomously within the MDT. It also offers an opportunity for research collaborations in Rheumatology.
As a Senior Clinical/Health Psychologist (AHP3) within the Rheumatology Service, you will play an integral role in supporting patients to achieve improved health and wellbeing outcomes. Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention to outpatients with rheumatological conditions, helping them navigate the emotional and behavioural challenges associated with these conditions. You will also co-facilitate a group program alongside physiotherapists, focused on education, self-management, and health coaching to empower patients in their care journey.
At AHP3 level, you will demonstrate experience and skills commensurate with an endorsed area of practice and be a board-approved supervisor able to offer student placements and provide supervision, as required. Experienced AHP2s are also strongly encouraged to apply.
In this rewarding and collaborative role, you will contribute to the ongoing development of the service through research, evaluation, and quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing models of care and service delivery. Whether you are developing your clinical expertise at the AHP2 level or providing advanced leadership and mentorship as an AHP3, you will be part of a team committed to innovation, collaboration, and compassionate, evidence-based care that makes a meaningful difference in patients’ lives.
About You
You are a compassionate and dedicated Psychologist who thrives in a multidisciplinary environment and is committed to improving patient outcomes through evidence-based care. With strong clinical insight and communication skills, you bring a patient-centred approach to your practice and demonstrate initiative, professionalism, and empathy in all aspects of your work. You are passionate about supporting individuals and teams through psychological assessment, intervention, and collaboration to deliver meaningful and sustainable health outcomes.
Clinical Expertise: Hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PBA), with experience delivering psychological assessments, interventions, and treatment evaluations. For AHP3, an endorsed area of practice and board-approved supervisor status is required.
Collaborative Practice: Skilled in working within multidisciplinary teams, providing consultancy to internal units and external agencies, and facilitating group-based programs.
Research & Analytical Skills: Proficient in designing, implementing, and evaluating psychological procedures and interventions, including planning and conducting research to enhance clinical effectiveness.
Professionalism & Ethics: Demonstrate strong organisational and time management skills, sound judgement in managing ethical and confidentiality issues, and a clear understanding of relevant legislation and workplace standards.
- Group therapy skills are essential.
