Cloncurry Shire Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Manager Planning & Environment to lead our dedicated team in delivering strategic and operational outcomes across planning, environmental health, waste, and compliance functions.
About the Role
Reporting to the Director Infrastructure and Environment, this position plays a key role in supporting sustainable growth and ensuring the Shire’s development and environmental management activities meet legislative and community standards.
As a senior leader, you will guide a multi-disciplinary team, manage Council’s planning and environmental operations, and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes for the Cloncurry community.
What We Offer
- Full Time- Level 7 (OAP) - $115,000 to $125,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience) + Superannuation.
- 5 weeks Annual Leave (with 17.5% Leave Loading)
- Monthly RDO (13 per year)
- Personal (Sick) Leave
- Locality Allowance
- Housing provided: Council housing as part of your package.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Planning and Environment team to achieve organisational goals and service standards.
- Oversee town planning, building, plumbing, environmental health, and waste management operations.
- Provide expert advice on planning, environmental, and regulatory matters to Council and the community.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and local laws.
- Develop, review, and monitor budgets and operational plans for the department.
- Represent Council at community, agency, and industry forums.
- Support emergency management functions, including disaster preparedness and response.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in Planning, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience interpreting and applying planning, building, plumbing, and environmental legislation.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- A collaborative and proactive approach to engaging with internal teams, community members, and external stakeholders.
- A valid C Class Driver’s Licence and current Police Clearance.
- Experience in a similar role within local government will be highly regarded.
