Infrastructure Architect

Location: Melbourne
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (3 days in-office)
Contract Duration: 12 months (potential for extension)

About the Role We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the infrastructure design and implementation for a major new warehouse project. This is a hands-on, strategic role focused on building a modern, scalable, and secure supply chain facility from the ground up.
You will work closely with delivery teams, business stakeholders, and technology partners to ensure infrastructure solutions meet performance, security, and operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure design for a new warehouse site, ensuring scalability, resilience, performance, and security.
• Act as a key advisor and escalation point for infrastructure-related technology decisions, ensuring alignment with business needs and design governance.
• Provide architectural support across infrastructure and related technology domains during site fit-out.
• Collaborate with Delivery Management to oversee implementation across infrastructure technology stacks.
• Support Business Product Owners during infrastructure-related implementations.
• Engage with digital operations and assist with infrastructure changes as needed.
• Partner with third-party vendors and internal teams to deliver infrastructure technologies and platforms for the site build.
• Serve as the lead architect for infrastructure elements of the warehouse project.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure patterns, policies, and standards across cloud and on-premise environments.
• Translate business requirements into infrastructure solutions; guide their implementation from design through operations.
• Regularly review existing infrastructure platforms to ensure ongoing compliance with standards and policies.
• Validate solution designs for alignment with broader technology strategies and architecture.
• Contribute to technical proposals and work with external vendors when necessary.
• Collaborate with the Senior Manager – Solution Architecture and Enterprise Architects to define roadmaps and ensure scalability and performance.
• Stay current with infrastructure trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
• Ensure that all infrastructure solutions are designed with security, resilience, and business continuity in mind.
• Assist with cross-domain cyber security architecture and its impact on infrastructure.
• Communicate the architectural vision clearly and contribute to business engagement and stakeholder communication.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5 years in infrastructure and architecture domains (including cloud, networking, compute, and storage).
• Proven experience in end-to-end infrastructure design for office/warehouse fit-outs, including collaboration with contractors and vendors.
• Hands-on involvement in warehouse or data center design.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including VMware, Azure Stack, SAN/NAS, backup, and disaster recovery.
• Experience with HCI (Hyper-Converged Infrastructure).
• Expertise in networking (including SD-WAN), firewalls, and Wi-Fi.
• Proficiency with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and ARM templates.
• Experience delivering infrastructure solutions across diverse environments (on-premises, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, public cloud).

• Knowledge of warehouse robotics and automation systems (Dematic systems highly regarded).
• Previous exposure to the FMCG industry.

• Certification: Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert (required)
