The Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Team is dedicated to reducing the burden of infectious diseases in children and their families. We achieve this through comprehensive approaches that encompass understanding disease burden, optimising vaccine use, diagnostic and treatment strategies, and evaluating and informing current and future prevention programs, primarily immunisation. As part of our social research activities, we conduct projects that seek to understand reasons for community’s understanding of childhood vaccines and ways to improve vaccine uptake among children and families across multiple communities.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Officer who is passionate about qualitative research and public health to support the Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Team to ensure efficient functioning and achievement of project specific goals.
Reporting to the Team Lead, you will be focused on progressing specific projects within the social research program, by providing high level support to other researchers. You will also contribute to the ethics, governance, and regulatory applications for specific projects.
In this role, you will:
Conduct and provide guidance on qualitative research methods and analyses, including conducting focus groups, interviews, and thematic analyses of data.
Manage specific research projects.
Conduct ethics and governance applications.
Prepare academic publications, presentations, media outputs, and grant submissions.
Regularly communicate with multiple stakeholders including regional and metropolitan community groups.
About You
The ideal applicant will be passionate about making a difference in childhood infectious diseases and will have the ability to work collaboratively within our supportive team. You will be self-motivated and driven by achieving project outcomes and will thrive working in a fast-paced environment.
Along with this, you will possess the following skills and experience:
Post graduate qualifications (PhD or equivalent) in public health, health promotion or related field.
Previous experience in research project management OR research ethics and governance experience.
Previous experience in undertaking qualitative research.
Academic writing skills including the preparation of protocol reports and/or publications.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
