About Us:
DCC Industry Group is dedicated to enriching lives through our key divisions: Youth & Communities, Foster and Kinship Care, Workforce, Allied Health and Disability Services. Our goal is to provide services that empower individuals across all stages of life, supporting their well-being and personal growth in every aspect of their journey. We are an Indigenous-led organisation dedicated to creating safe, supportive, and empowering environments for children and young people. Guided by strong cultural values we work to strengthen the safety and wellbeing of all children, with a deep commitment to protecting the rights and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families. As part of this commitment, we are embedding the requirements of the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) across all areas of our work, ensuring our organisation remains a leader in child safeguarding and cultural safety.
About this role:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Child Safeguarding Advisor to lead the integration of the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld) across our organisation. This pivotal role will embed child safeguarding, the Universal Principle, and Child Safe Standards into our policies, practices, and culture—ensuring compliance and championing best-practice approaches to protecting children and young people. You will guide the organisation to strengthen systems, build capability, and ensure we are meeting legislative responsibilities with integrity and care.
You will work within the Quality, Risk and Compliance team, and at times, in collaboration with the Quality and Practice team, and report to the Chief Legal and Compliance Officer. You will also work across other organisational areas to guide in incorporating the Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle into everyday practice, monitoring outcomes and reporting to internal stakeholders and government authorities.
Key responsibilities:
Guide the organisation’s compliance with the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (Qld), and other applicable legislation.
In collaboration with our Quality, Risk and Compliance team, review, develop, and implement child safeguarding policies, procedures, and frameworks.
In collaboration with our Quality and Practice team, develop and provide training, guidance, and advice to staff, management, and volunteers on child safeguarding obligations.
Monitor, audit, and report on safeguarding practices to ensure continuous improvement.
Act as the organisation’s key advisor on safeguarding, supporting a culture where child safety is everyone’s responsibility.
Liaise with external regulators and stakeholders to ensure accountability and transparency.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Occasional travel to other DCC locations as required.
Demonstrated knowledge of child safeguarding frameworks, legislation, and best practice.
Experience in compliance, policy development, or risk management, preferably within community services, allied health, or child protection sectors.
Experience in development and delivery of training.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Strong communication, conflict resolution, training, and influencing skills.
Ability to build trust and credibility across all levels of the organisation.
High level of cultural awareness and respect, with a commitment to cultural safety and working effectively in an Indigenous-led organisation.
A clear commitment to equity and inclusion, with zero tolerance for discrimination.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in law, social work, psychology, child protection, or related field (or equivalent experience).
A current Working With Children Check (Blue Card), current Disability Screen (Yellow Card), current LCS Check and National Police Clearance, or willingness to obtain them.
What We Offer:
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children and young people.
A key advisory role that shapes the future of child safeguarding within our organisation.
A supportive team environment with strong values and purpose.
Flexible working arrangements and ongoing professional development.
Permanent. Full-time employment
