The CEPU Plumbing Division is seeking a proactive, detail-driven Membership Officer to join our busy, purpose-driven team.
This role sits at the heart of the Union’s operations — supporting our members, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring our systems and services run smoothly. The ideal candidate is an all-rounder: confident with administration, comfortable speaking with blue-collar workers, and capable of juggling competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
About the Role
You’ll be part of a small, hands-on team t hat keeps the Union’s membership and administration running day-to-day. Key responsibilities include:
Membership Administration
Maintaining and updating the Union’s membership database (processing new members, resignations, and updates).
Receipting, reconciling and processing membership fees (Direct Debit, EFT, BPAY, payroll deductions).
Managing direct debits, dishonours, and member correspondence.
Generating membership and financial reports for management and audits.
Issuing invoices, receipts, tax letters, OK cards, and new member kits.
Member Support & Engagement
Handling calls, emails, and counter inquiries in a professional and friendly manner.
Providing advice to members regarding their accounts, benefits, and services.
Assisting organisers and staff in communicating with members about workplace or union matters.
Promoting and coordinating access to member benefits such as health, training, redundancy, and insurance programs.
Office & Administrative Support
Assisting with mail, filing, correspondence, and general office coordination.
Providing secretarial and administrative support to the Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and Office Manager.
Coordinating merchandise orders, workshops, and meetings when required.
Assisting with compliance reporting and audits related to membership and financial records.
Contributing to the improvement of systems and processes across the office.
About You
Strong administrative or office experience (ideally in a union, not-for-profit, or member-based environment).
Excellent communication skills with the confidence to speak with members and industry partners.
High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, reporting, and record-keeping.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and comfortable learning new systems.
Organised and adaptable — able to prioritise and stay on top of competing deadlines.
A team player with a strong work ethic and commitment to union values.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and problem-solve under pressure.
