We are committed to clinical excellence, career development, a supportive culture, and work/life balance. As a major teaching hospital, we train future health professionals and lead research initiatives to advance healthcare.

We offer:

  • Clinical Excellence: Delivering high-quality care through innovative practices and patient-focused services.

About your opportunity:
  • Lead high quality primary care clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the THHS held within the Townsville Correctional Centre. This includes working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary care team, promoting research, as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
  • Proven ability to undertake high level clinical activities with consumers impacted by alcohol, tobacco and other drugs within a multidisciplinary team context, with the ability to provide clinical support to clinicians as appropriate.
  • This role would suit a VR General Practitioner with FACRRM or FRACGP preferred, who has experience in dealing with complex patients impacted by alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and who has a commitment to providing effective and efficient evidence-based care. You will work with supporting services including mental health services in the delivery of a high standard of clinical care in accordance with general practice guidelines.
  • On-Call periods to provide after-hours advice maybe required, and this is shared amongst SMO, and it is appropriately remunerated. Security checks and adherence to Townsville Correctional Centre policies are required.
  • Professional development opportunities within the wider THHS are available on request. This will be supported where possible.
  • Proven leadership skills are a key quality for the successful applicant as the prison is a challenging environment with many potential obstacles to high quality care.

  • Mandatory qualification, registration with AHPRA and hold advanced qualifications such as FRACGP or FACRRM relevant to the role.
  • Possession of advanced qualifications such as Opiods Substitution Prescriber qualification relevant to the role.
