At Chernco Engineering, we’re a leading Australian steel fabrication and engineering company, delivering precision components and complex assemblies for infrastructure, water, and industrial projects across NSW.
Our facility combines Profile cutting, CNC machining, fabrication, and hot-dip galvanising to deliver complete in-house solutions.

We’re expanding our team and seeking an experienced Laser Cutter Operator to join our high-performing fabrication division.

The Roles

You’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining our Bystronic & Craftstahl fibre laser cutting machines to process mild steel and stainless steel plate, sheet and long product.

The Machines

20kw Bystronic large format flatbed laser

12kw Craftstahl 550x12000 beam and tube laser

Both machines are some of the most capable machines in the country.

Beyond this we have over 20 other CNC machine tools in the facility.

Key duties:

Operate, set up, and monitor fibre laser cutting machines

Interpret drawings and nest layouts to ensure cutting accuracy

Load and unload materials safely using overhead crane or forklift

Perform basic maintenance and nozzle checks

Assist with deburring, cleaning, and tagging cut parts

Coordinate with the programming and fabrication teams for workflow efficiency

Maintain quality standards and adhere to WHS procedures

About You

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in precision work and wants to be part of a quality-driven Australian fabrication business.

Skills & experience:

Experience operating Bystronic, tube lasers or similar CNC laser cutters

Competent in reading engineering drawings and understanding tolerances

Forklift licence or experience with material handling (desirable)

Familiarity with nesting software or basic CNC programming advantageous

Reliable, punctual, and capable of working autonomously or in a small team

Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
