The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Programs Supervisor to provide a critical role at Custodial Operations, Beechworth Correctional Centre.

About the Business Unit

Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is for ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. Our mission is to have ‘A safer, smarter system with a skilled and supported workforce, that enables people in our care to make better decisions'. The Beechworth Correctional Centre is a minimum-security facility with a focus on preparing individuals for release and successful reintegration back into society. It offers various working industries with the men given the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will effectively link them to employment on release. When not engaged in work, the men attend rehabilitative programs to address their offending behaviour, engage in education and visits whilst many also engage in recreation and community assistance programs.

About the Role

The Programs Supervisor oversees program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation to ensure that programs are meeting the needs of prisoners and the prison environment. Stakeholder management and community engagement is a high priority for the Programs Supervisor to ensure positive relationships that enable high quality service delivery within the prison.

Some of your duties will include:

Supervise the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of a range of programs and services to support and assist prisoners' personal development towards successful reintegration into society and a reduction in recidivism.

• Supervise and lead a team of Programs staff ensuring ongoing training, support and performance management is provided.

• Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enable cohesive service delivery

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in staff management and supervision
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in welfare practice or related fields
  • Demonstrated understanding of transition and reintegration issues and needs of prisoners • Knowledge of the limitations imposed on program delivery within a correctional environment
  • Experience in planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with diverse cohorts, especially Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities Qualifications/Requirements
