About the role

We are currently seeking a passionate, community-minded and experienced arts professional to join our dynamic festivals team.

The Festivals and Permits Officer manages stallholder and artists application processes and the Community Events Permits program with the Festivals team under the direction of the Executive Producer, Festivals.

Management of stallholder processes for Coburg Night Market and Sydney Road Street Party, includes coordinating the application and selection process, invoicing and liaison. This role also manages artist application processes, supports the festival producers and assists with contracting, marketing and artist liaison.

The Festivals and Permits Officer coordinates the Event Permits program, which empowers the community to manage a diverse array of festivals and events in the outdoor spaces owned or managed by Merri-bek City Council. This role ensuring that all events are conducted in accordance with relevant regulations, policies and guidelines. The role will be responsible for managing the processing and issuing of event permits, liaising with Festivals staff, event organisers and stakeholders, and ensuring that events are safe, compliant, and well-managed.

Skills and experience require to perform the role
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proficient in developing and distributing promotional content for websites, e-newsletters, and social media.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Committed to maintaining high work standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in project or festival and events management and coordination, event permitting and management or a minimum three years of experience, preferably in a local government, festivals and/or arts environment.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in events management or related field is desirable.
