The position of Aboriginal Family Safety Worker - Female - Safe Spaces - Domestic and Family Abuse is a full-time role. The primary location is our Wyong Office; however, this role provides services across the Central Coast.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi are seeking an Aboriginal Family Safety Worker - Female, to join our youth, family and wellbeing stream. As part of this important role, you will provide a range of culturally responsive, therapeutic and practical support services to families and young people aged 12 -18 years who are impacted by Domestic and Family Abuse (DFA). This support will help empower young people to make positive decisions to achieve change in their behaviour, safety and ongoing cultural and practical support needs. This role will predominatly work with youth and their families.

The types of support will be tailored to the needs and strengths of each young person and their family to achieve the following objectives:

support family systems and collaborative problem solving

helping young people to build their skills and tools to communicate positively, reduce conflict, improve family interactions and strengthen family bonds

helping parents build their knowledge and, confidence and skills around DFA, through psychoeducation and skill building in de-escalation strategies

supporting families to navigate service systems and access the information and services they may require

help to develop appropriate safety plans as users and victims of DFA.

Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi is an Aboriginal agency on the Central Coast of NSW representing the Aboriginal communities that fall within the Central Coast Local Government area.

The name Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi is from the Darkinjung language and means ‘listen to the children’. This principle forms the basis of our core belief that Aboriginal children and young people need to be connected to their community and culture and to participate and contribute to their story.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Please provide testament to your Aboriginality and your connections to Darkinjung Country & Community

Relevant tertiary qualifications Community Services - Youth Work or higher, or working towards. Relevant experience in welfare or related field and minimum 6 months experience in service delivery for young people and their Families with complex needs

Availability to work flexible hours (evening or weekend work may be required)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Proficiency in report writing and demonstrated ability to develop, organise and maintain records and reports in a timely manner

Good computer skills including Microsoft office and Windows based software.
