ABOUT THE ROLE

Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi are seeking an Aboriginal Family Worker to join our family and wellbeing stream. As part of this important role, you will working in the Safe and Strong Families Program working directly with Aboriginal families and their children.

The Aboriginal Family Worker will ensure that Aboriginal families are able to access timely, effective and culturally safe support services to address vunerability and risk factors including those that may lead to child abuse, neglect and family violence. Family engagement is also supported and encouraged to participate in appropriate activities and programs. Services are provided in a child-centred manner, where safety, wellbeing and connection to culture is paramount.

ABOUT YOU

The successful candidate will be able to:

identify needs and create supportive networks and referral pathways for Aboriginal families and children.

demonstrate care, compassion and empathy in understanding issues surrounding vulnerable Aboriginal families

support families in their understanding of child development

work within a collaborative care team approach and with relevant stakeholders and organisations to promote the best outcomes for children and families

demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the practice and principles involved in case work and case co-ordination

empower families and carers to live happy, healthy lives

ABOUT US

Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi is an Aboriginal Agency on the Central Coast of NSW representing the Aboriginal communities that fall within the Local Government area of the Wyong.

The name Gudjagang Ngara li-dhi is from the Darkinjung language and means ‘listen to the children’. This principle forms the basis of our core belief that Aboriginal children and young people need to be connected to their community and culture and to participate and contribute to their story.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Please provide testament to your Aboriginality and your connections to Darkinjung Country & Community

Relevant tertiary qualifications Community Services Cert 3 or higher, or working towards, in welfare or related field and minimum 6 months experience in service delivery with Families and Children with complex needs

Availability to work flexible hours (evening or weekend work may be required)

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Proficiency in case note writing and demonstrated ability to develop, organise and maintain records and reports in a timely manner

Good computer skills including Microsoft office and Windows based software

Current NSW Driver’s Licence and Working With Children Check
