The Position
The Business Analyst (Residential Finance) is a key contributor to the financial management and transformation of ANU’s student accommodation portfolio, supporting around 6,500 beds across 13 residences. Situated within the Finance & Business Services division, the role partners closely with the Residential Experience Division and other stakeholders to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
This position bridges daily finance operations with strategic initiatives, focusing on process improvement, system optimisation, and automation. The role provides an opportunity to lead projects that strengthen financial controls, reduce manual workloads, and enhance the sustainability of the Residential portfolio.
Key responsibilities include supporting budgeting, forecasting, reconciliations, debt management, and reporting; preparing insightful financial analyses; collaborating with stakeholders to deliver business analysis solutions; applying continuous improvement practices; aligning finance operations with system capabilities; mentoring colleagues; participating in projects using Agile or other methodologies; and ensuring compliance with ANU policies and Australian Accounting Standards.
This role is ideal for a proactive professional with strong analytical, finance, and stakeholder engagement skills.
The Person
The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline, complemented by extensive experience in financial management and business analysis—preferably within the accommodation or higher education sector.
They will demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record in identifying opportunities for process improvement and delivering sustainable financial outcomes. Proficiency in enterprise systems such as StarRez, TM1, CRMs, and Power BI will be highly regarded, along with the ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful insights.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as the role involves close collaboration with colleagues across both strategic and operational levels. The successful candidate will be a proactive and adaptable team player who contributes to a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and financial excellence within the Residential and Finance & Business Services divisions.
