Lives Lived Well offer a variety of community and residential Alcohol and Other Drug programs throughout Queensland, New South Wales, and South Australia, helping thousands of people every year to navigate AOD related challenges and move forward in life.

A new Residential AOD Treatment Facility designed to deliver high-quality, specialist residential AOD treatment services for adults aged 18 years and over is opening in Ipswich. The centre will provide a total of 46 beds, comprising 36 beds for residential rehabilitation and 10 beds for withdrawal management and care.

Your Opportunity

We are looking for a Peer Support Worker with designated lived experience, to support clients within our Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) recovery service. You will draw on your own journey of substance use and recovery to walk alongside others in theirs – being a familiar and trusted presence for clients throughout their stay and providing authentic, empathetic, and non-judgemental support to clients.

This is a full-time, permanent role based in on-site in Ipswich. The position is paying $76,000k – $81,000k annually plus Superannuation and Salary Packaging up to $15,900 per year.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to have a personal lived experience of substance dependence, service use and recovery.

What we are looking for

As part of a multidisciplinary team, you’ll be helping to shape a recovery-oriented culture by modelling lived experience in action, supporting clients to feel heard and empowered, and contributing to the development of peer-informed programs. You’re someone who:

· Has personal lived experience of substance use and recovery (12+ months) and is ready to share your journey in a purposeful, safe, and empowering way.

· Brings eagerness to take on a range of relational tasks – you will be a familiar face for clients throughout their stay including supporting them during intake and discharge transitions; identifying short- and long-term goals with clients; agenda setting; supporting group facilitation; providing lifestyle support; and meeting attendance.

· Understands boundaries within peer support work, ensuring interactions are purposeful and authentic sharing of substance use and recovery is for the benefit of the client – not to overshadow.

· Demonstrates knowledge of the complexities of alcohol and substance use including stigmatising and criminalisation.

· Is confident initiating and nurturing connections within the local community – you’ll be helping to connect clients to local services (outside of the residential area) and helping clients to navigate these services.

· Builds authentic relationships - you will genuinely care about walking alongside clients and brings empathy, hope, and resilience to others navigating recovery.

· Brings with them a passion for social justice, reducing stigma and advocating for inclusive, person-centred care.

Most importantly you will have passion, commitment, and a great attitude with a genuine alignment to the Lives Lived Well values. Our values are:

  • We are humble, human, and full of hope
  • We show up and share
  • We ask: Why not? And what’s next?
  • We leave a positive wake
