Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.
Are you ready to shape a role that drives real health outcomes for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education communities across Queensland?
Diabetes Australia is seeking a passionate and culturally grounded Education Facilitator to lead the delivery of diabetes education and health promotion programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to mould and evolve a role that reflects community needs, values, and strengths.
Why This Role Matters
You’ll be the face of culturally safe diabetes education across Queensland—building respectful relationships, travelling to regional and remote communities, and delivering workshops that empower people to take control of their health.
This role is about walking alongside community, listening deeply, and helping people see themselves in the programs we offer. You’ll be part of a team that values lived experience, cultural knowledge, and the power of yarning.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver culturally appropriate diabetes education using the Diabetes Yarning Methodology
- Build strong relationships with ACCHOs, AMSs, and First Nations health organisations
- Facilitate workshops for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous health professionals and their communities
- Travel across QLD to reach communities where the need is greatest
- Track and report outcomes to help shape future program delivery
- Represent Diabetes Australia at community events, forums, and conferences
What We’re Looking For
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or equivalent experience in health, community development or education
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (desirable)
- Strong cultural knowledge and an established network of relationships in community
- Confidence in public speaking and able to facilitate a group discussion in an emotionally intelligent manner
- Resilient nature, and an ability to adapt quickly to changing schedules in remote areas
- Willingness to travel on a semi-regular basis
- Strong administrative skills; coordinating schedules, travel and event logistics
- Experience working with ACCHOs, AMSs, or in health advocacy roles
- Current C class driver’s licence
Why Join Diabetes Australia?
- Cultural Connection: Your lived experience and cultural knowledge are valued and respected
- Flexibility: You’ll have autonomy over your calendar and travel schedule
- Supportive Team: You’ll be backed by a team that understands the importance of community-led work, and be a key part of a national team that are focused on improving health outcomes for First Nations people
- Inclusive Culture: Our RAP actions are meaningful, not tokenistic
- Wellbeing Focus: Access to EAP for you and your family
- Salary Packaging: Up to $15,900 tax-free benefits

We will interview all eligible applicants with the skills and experience to work effectively on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues. Please don’t hesitate to apply—even if you don’t meet every criterion.
