The Development and Regulatory team are staffed with a well-regarded close-knit team of Environmental Health Officers that provide educational programs and activities to assist with the adherence of regulatory standards for over 500 food, health and beauty premises located throughout our sizeable council.
Reporting to the Unit Manager Community Health & Safety our Team Leader Environmental Health will be responsible for effectively leading, coaching and motivating a team of committed professional officers to develop, implement, promote, and coordinate a broad range of environmental health activities and programs.
In this hands-on position, you will support the Environmental Health Officers in providing businesses with appropriate information, conducting inspections, and investigating complaints and issuing directions in line with legislation.
Accountabilities for this position includes but are not limited to the following.
Leading the team and managing the ongoing design, implementation, measurement and reporting of systems which deliver a customer experience that is effortless and exceeds our customer’s expectations.
Managing the team’s regulatory and inspectorial regime, including the team’s adherence with inspection schedules, instigation of compliance action as required and ensuring adequate documentation is captured and retained in accordance with statutory requirements.
Developing and leading the implementation of work area business planning, ensuring these plans align and meet the strategic direction and statutory obligations of Council.
Providing necessary reports to senior management, Council’s Elected Members and State Government regarding activities and funding agreements.
Developing and managing the budget of the Environmental Health Team, including the submission of project budget bids and monthly financial reporting.
We now welcome applications from experienced Environmental Health professionals that have Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health or equivalent, as recognised by the South Australian Minister for Health. Your prior experience will need to include a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and make decisions to implement appropriate actions including conducting inspections, investigating complaints, and gathering evidence and information.
It is expected you will have comprehensive knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge of, relevant legislation including the South Australian Public Health Act, Food Act, Supported Residential Facilities Act, Environmental Protection Act (Water Quality Policy) and Local Nuisance and Litter Control Act. A demonstrated ability to use initiative to apply legislation to effectively analyse information and make appropriate decisions and recommendations will be key. Additionally, sound knowledge of public health and food safety issues will be necessary to be successful in this role.
To be successful in this position you will need:
DHS Working with Children Check and Vulnerable Person Checks
A valid, full (unrestricted) driver's license in accordance with South Australian requirements.
Be physically fit and pass a pre-employment physical
