Are you a detail-oriented finance professional with a strong background in local government rates and revenue? We're looking for a motivated Rates/Revenue Officer to join the finance team and play a key role in delivering accurate, efficient, and customer-focused rates services.
About the Role
As a Rates Officer, you will be an integral part of the Rates & Receivables team, ensuring high-quality service delivery in the administration of property rates and charges. You'll work across a variety of revenue tasks—from processing ratepayer transactions to responding to customer enquiries—while ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, customer-focused rates administration services
- Process changes of address, property transfers, Section 603 certificates, rate adjustments, and refunds
- Manage pensioner rebate verifications and rate category changes
- Assist in debt recovery of outstanding rates and charges
- Reconcile EFT payments and maintain accurate rates records
- Contribute to system improvements, audit processes, and register maintenance
- Collaborate with internal teams and respond to customer enquiries (written and verbal)
- Support general administrative and financial duties as required
About You
You are an experienced professional who thrives in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment and has a genuine passion for public service and finance. You enjoy problem-solving, value accuracy, and can work both independently and within a team.
To be successful:
- Certificate in Business Administration, Bookkeeping or similar
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Local Government rates and revenue environment
- Knowledge of rating legislation and property revenue processe
- Strong numeracy, data entry, and analytical skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel)
- Ability to meet deadlines, manage time effectively and adapt to shifting priorities
- Familiarity with WHS and EEO principles
