Established in 2004, PASO Medical is an integrated provider of Oncology and Haematology services based in Frankston. The centre comprises three integrated units: Consulting Suites, Day Infusion Centre, and Clinical Trials Team.
The Infusion Centre / Private Same Day Hospital provides patients access to a range of specialized services, including but not limited to, Immunotherapy, Chemotherapy and infusions for the treatment and management of cancer and other chronic illnesses. The purpose-built unit offers bright and spacious modern treatment areas with the convenience of a day treatment service. Backed by an experienced and passionate team of Oncologists, Haematologists, Specialists and Nurses, patients can rest assured, they will be well looked after and receive the highest quality of care. We are looking for a Part Time Chemotherapy Trained Nurse to commence immediately.
The Role
The Day Infusion Nurse delivers comprehensive, patient-centred care by leading, engaging, and collaborating with the wider healthcare community. This role involves coordinating and administering Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy treatments to assigned patients, ensuring adherence to PASO Medical’s policies, clinical standards, and best-practice nursing procedures.
Key Accountabilities
Conduct preventative screening and triage, identifying and escalating care for compromised or complex patients
Care, management and insertion of central access and peripheral devices
Perform phlebotomy procedures including peripheral IV insertion and blood draws from midlines, PICCs, ports, and other CVADs
Perform assessment, access, and maintenance of venous access devices
Accurately maintain and update electronic medical records (EMR) in a timely manner
Assist Health Care Providers (HCPs) with procedures, including those requiring moderate sedation
Maintain accurate documentation using clinical software, including recall/reminder systems and information management tools
Demonstrate understanding of workplace health and safety principles
Manage supplies and clinical resources within budget
Act as a resource to other Cancer Clinic nursing staff and participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of educational initiatives and policies and procedures
Provide expert patient education, assessment, and management of treatment-related side effects
Focused on maintaining current knowledge and a proven track record of a commitment to professional development
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including allied health and referrers, to coordinate patient care
Actively contribute to quality improvement initiatives and review of clinical systems
Promote health literacy through patient education, outreach programs, and community health initiatives
Practice in accordance with PASO Medical’s policies, nursing standards, and professional codes
Demonstrate positive communication and actively foster a team culture grounded in respect, dignity, and cultural safety
Key Criteria
Current Registration with AHPRA
Competency in PICC, PORT, IV Cannulation and phlebotomy skills (or working towards)
ADAC qualification (or working towards)
Mandatory BloodSafe and Hand Hygiene competencies
CVAD management experience
Proven commitment to quality patient care
Understanding and compliance with ACQSHC National Standards
Sound clinical decision making and problem-solving skills
Attention to detail and proficiency in clinical software and computer systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Adaptable and flexible in dynamic clinical environments
Preferred experience in Oncology and Haematology nursing principles
Preferred experienced administering cytotoxic chemotherapy and/or related cancer treatments
National Police Check clearance
