Better Futures Community Connector

Full-time, 38 hours a week

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

About the Role

Better Futures Community Connector will play a key role using the Better Futures approach that aims to build supportive networks, pathways, and opportunities for young people within their communities. This includes building networks with accommodation services, supporting and encouraging young people from 15 years and 9 months old to 21 years old, that are leaving residential or out of home care and are at the risk of homelessness, to engage with Better Futures and Home Stretch.

The role also requires building new partnerships and maintaining existing networks with professionals supporting the young person including but not limited to case managers and care teams. Case planning is integral to this role and need to include the young persons identified goals.

Better Futures Community Connector will also develop annual work plan that incorporates aspects of cultural sensitivity to empower young Aboriginal clients to achieve the following areas such as housing, living skills, education, employment, and wellbeing. This plan is reviewed at the end of the financial year, and a new plan is developed annually to measure outcomes achieved against the activities undertaken.

Better Futures Community Connector will identify pathways, resources and relationships within the community that can support young people to realise their aspirations, develop their strengths and achieve their goals.

About You

To excel in this position, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

You are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

A recognised qualification such as Diploma in Community Services, or a related field (Diploma level minimum) or demonstrated skills and experienced in a similar field.

A good knowledge and understanding of the child protection and out of home care systems.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Facilitation skills to organise activities for young people to participate in as part of an annual plan.

Demonstrated experience in developing strong networks and/or partnerships to negotiate and advocate on behalf of young people.

Ability to establish relationship with housing providers and real estate agents.

Demonstrated experience in building effective relationships with young people.

Ability to maintain a high standard of confidentiality and compliance.

Ability to work co-operatively and effectively in a team environment.

Good organisational skills including ability to prioritise and work to deadlines.

Salary packaging of $15,900 available for Part- or Full-time employees.
