The branch

ONI’s Workforce Branch is a supportive and collaborative branch who deliver customer service through modern and flexible HR practices.

The Branch is responsible for delivering workplace relations, recruitment, workforce reporting, payroll, learning and development, and WHS services for ONI.

The Branch has a consistent focus on quality and efficient service, delivered with diligence, care and accuracy.

Our HR Professionals enjoy what they do and value providing expertise, collaboration, and innovation.

The role

ONI is seeking an experienced Workplace Relations or Human Resources Specialist to join our People Services and Conditions Section – a team that will support you in your role and help you shine as a WR/HR professional in a prestigious intelligence agency.

Our team plays a critical role in maintaining effective employee relations, developing and implementing workplace policies, and providing expert advice on industrial relations, WHS, complex cases and pay-related matters. Working closely with management, employees, and external stakeholders, you will develop new policy, participate in enterprise bargaining and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industrial instruments. You will be part of a supportive team that promotes positive work culture, productivity and employee well-being.

Key duties of the role may include:

  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing workplace policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with relevant employment legislation and best practices.
  • Providing expert advice on industrial relations and/or WHS matters, including workplace agreements, enterprise bargaining, dispute resolution and work health and safety.
  • Investigating complex policy queries and providing advice.
  • Staying up-to-date on changes in employment legislation and WHS legislation, and providing recommendations to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Developing and delivering communication campaigns to educate employees and managers on workplace relations and/or WHS policies and procedures.
  • Building, nurturing and supporting relationships with stakeholders and providers to deliver successful outcomes.

The distinction between the APS6 and EL1 roles is determined by the complexity of the work and the level of autonomy, accountability, initiative and independent judgement required. The selection panel will assess candidates against the APS Work Level Standards and any offer of employment will be made at the classification commensurate with the skills, knowledge, experience and capabilities demonstrated by the successful candidate.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide practical and strategic advice on industrial matters.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion in dealing with sensitive and confidential information.

Desirable attributes:
