The Team:

These are newly created leadership roles in newly established regional teams, offering the chance to make a real impact from day one. You’ll be joining the Office of the Chief Risk Officer at a time of transformation, with a major security project underway that will reshape how safety and security services are delivered across Tasmania.

What you can expect:

Three positions available: Regional Directors in the South, North and North West.

The opportunity to build and lead a high-performing regional team with a clear purpose.

A key role in delivering one of the most significant safety and security projects in the Tasmanian Health Service.

A dynamic and supportive environment that values innovation, collaboration and bold thinking.

The chance to leave your mark on a system-wide service that protects patients, staff and visitors across Tasmania.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of safety and security within the Department of Health. We are recruiting three Regional Directors - one each in the South, North and North West - to lead newly established Safety and Support teams in their region.

As Regional Director, you will be at the forefront of building a new service and leading a major statewide security project that will transform how we deliver safety and security across Tasmania. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Safety, Security and Quality Unit (SSQU), you will play a pivotal role in strengthening risk management, incident response and security services in your region.

Key duties include:

Providing expert strategic advice on safety, security and incident management to senior executives.

Establishing and leading the regional Safety and Support team, driving capability, training and performance.

Designing and implementing innovative policies, operational procedures, selection strategies and training programs that lift safety and security standards across the health system.

Building strong relationships with hospital executives, government and non-government partners to deliver shared outcomes.

Representing the Office of the Chief Risk Officer at high-level forums and steering conversations on major security and risk initiatives.

You will need to:

  • Lead the regional Safety and Support team, overseeing recruitment, deployment, training, and performance management to ensure a capable and responsive workforce.
  • Provide strategic leadership and authoritative specialist advice to senior executives, including the Executive Director SSQU, Chief Risk Officer, and hospital Chief Executives, on safety, security, risk, and incident response policy. Ensure alignment with strategic priorities through expert guidance and collaborative planning across departments and stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage regional teams, establishing clear reporting lines and accountability mechanisms. Translate strategic objectives into operational policies, procedures, and protocols in collaboration with relevant units, including SSQU and the Emergency Preparedness and Response Unit, to ensure effective risk mitigation and incident management.
