Dunalley Tasman Neighbourhood House is a not-for-profit organisation operating in regional Tasmania. We deliver a range of programs to support individuals, families, children and youth, to help reduce social isolation and create community engagement and growth.

Tasman Youth House Program

The Youth Worker Assistant is a highly motivated, emotionally intelligent and skilled team member who is passionate about supporting young people to engage positively at our Nubeena building through our weekly Youth House program and School Holiday excursions. Youth House provides a safe and supportive environment, focusing on developing connections, creating community belonging, and empowering the voices of youth in our region. This role is funded through a grant from the Department of Social Services, until 30 June 2026.

About the Role

Part-time Position starting at a minimum of 4.5 hours during school terms on Thursdays, increasing to a minimum of 7.5 hours during school holidays.

The successful candidate will also be given the option to be trained in our Friends Resilience school programs in order be relief/additional support for programming with additional hours, by agreement.

The role provides support to our Youth Worker during our afterschool Youth
House program (Thursdays during school terms) and for our Youth House School Holiday program (weekly excursion/bus trip).

The goal is to engage, mentor, and support young people aged 13-18 years who
attend the Youth House afterschool program, making them feel safe, supported,
listened to and connected.

Support young people to manage behaviours and de-escalate any conflicts.

Assist in supervision of young people during Youth House and the School
Holiday Program.

Transport – provide transport for young people to improve access, inclusion, and
engagement in the program via our Community Bus.

Encourage and support young persons to build relationships within community
and the Neighbourhood House.

Work autonomously and provide support and assistance to the Youth Worker
and other Family Support staff.

Assist with set up, pack down/cleaning and meal prep of the Youth House program.

Desirable skills and experience

Minimum Certificate III qualification in Community Services, Youth Work or
equivalent, and/or have relevant minimum 12months experience in a similar role.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with extensive experience in working with trauma impacted youth and building relationships with young people.

Ability to perceive and de-escalate/avoid conflict in group settings.

Ability to develop strong rapport with young people.

Current Tasmanian Drivers Licence, Satisfactory National Police Check, and
current Working with Vulnerable People’s Card.
