Reporting to the Finance and HR Manager, the Workforce & Recruitment Manager is responsible for recruiting, building and retaining a skilled workforce of hospitality professionals to service operational needs across all sectors of the business. Develop and maintain the systems that ensure overall company compliance and effective workforce delivery.

Role description

Reporting to the Finance & HR Manager, the Workforce & Recruitment Manager is accountable for;

Workforce Management

Workforce Strategy

Develop and maintain an effective workforce strategy for delivering a skilled workforce to deliver business needs

Maintain the strategy as an evolving and live framework that is transparent for managers & directors

Train and manage direct reports including:

The People & Staffing Officer

Onsite staff managers and support team

Casual admin assistants

Recruitment & Engagement:

Manage the Northbourne casual staff database and ensure it is kept current, ensuring clear and efficient communication and a high level of engagement

Use marketing techniques to recruit and assess new staff including executing a digital communication strategy that is in line with company brand guidelines

Ensure the database system enables the effective collection of relevant data to inform future decision making

Work with the F&HR Manager utilising smart tools facilitating the smooth flow of data from rostering through to payroll on an event by event basis

Training & Compliance

Develop a training and retention strategy that is targeted to ensure development of staff through varied roles

Ensuring training is fit for purpose and all staff hold required certification for roles

Develop the systems by which large casual workforce teams can effectively train and complete their roles in tight timelines

Event Rostering & Management:

Manage the Company’s rostering tools and ensure improvements are captured each event

Oversee the casual workforce roster per event

Train, mentor, and manage junior team members on onboarding, rostering, and roster maintenance

Ensure compliance with award and employment standards

Develop and foster a culture of hard work and enjoyment at Northbourne

Retention

Develop and maintain a communication strategy from season to season that ensures retention of trained and qualified staff

Coordinate and manage a feedback process that ensures that capable staff are retained and grow

Operational Execution

Onsite Management & Event Delivery

Assess and design working conditions at each event

Ensure pre event bookings (travel, transport and accomodation) have been confirmed

Design process for pre event communication and event day people management

Facilitate effective event day casual workforce management

Provide ongoing training to event day staffing leads and support staff to effectively manage workforce

Compliance & Internal Systems

Contribute to the management and effective use of internal systems and tools, ensuring accurate and accessible information sharing across the business

Participate in company wide communication rhythms and leadership activities, ensuring staffing information is integrated into internal planning

Support regulatory and operational compliance by maintaining accurate records, contributing to reporting requirements, and ensuring relevant obligations are reflected in the staffing process

Work collaboratively to strengthen system and compliance frameworks as the company grows

Collaborate with senior leaders and the executive team to shape and support systems strategy, ensure staffing processes and information are aligned with broader business needs

You will bring the following;

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in People or Workforce Management

Proven experience in demonstrating clear and effective communication skills

Experience with rostering / people management tools

Excellent attention to detail

Understanding of regulatory compliance and ability to design practical, accessible systems and documents to manage it

Ability to work under pressure and maintain a high standard of work

Ability to delegate and manage direct reports

Exceptional oral and written communication

Prior experience in large venues, hospitality, or the Event Industry would be a bonus

Location

This is a hybrid role between our Melbourne-based office and work from home. The successful candidate will be expected to attend the Melbourne office three days per week. Some on-site attendance at events will be expected, including occasional interstate travel. Whilst the role offers some flexibility in hours, core availability during standard business hours is required.
