The Opportunity

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training portfolio provides leadership, support and central administration for Higher Degree Research candidates and their supervisors, as well as training and development opportunities to UNSW researchers. The portfolio consists of a Graduate Research School, and Research Training team which work to realise the strategic vision of UNSW to prepare researchers who are globally focussed and socially engaged.

The Manager, Admissions & Scholarships at the Graduate Research School (GRS) plays a key role delivering efficient, high quality customer focused services to prospective and enrolled postgraduate research candidates and academic stakeholders in faculties and schools. As a member of the Senior Management Team of the GRS, you’ll also contribute to the development of the School’s broader strategies, policies and procedures and provide advice on University and government rules and regulations governing admissions and scholarships for postgraduate research candidates.

The role reports to the Associate Director, Graduate Research School and has 8 direct reports.

Skills and Experience

You have a relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent professional experience, supported by extensive leadership and staff management expertise. You also have strong operational management skills in planning, prioritisation, and time management, with the ability to thrive in high-volume environments and respond effectively to shifting priorities.

You can demonstrate your ability to interpret and apply Commonwealth legislation, policy, and guidelines, with a proven record in developing compliant procedures. As an experienced business stakeholder, you have contributed to significant successful IT systems developments and process improvements that support strategic goals. You can also demonstrate a strong understanding of quality assurance practices and a clear commitment to best practice.

Your excellent communication skills enable you to manage complex situations and stakeholder complaints effectively. You are proficient in a range of computer systems, particularly Microsoft Excel, and a commitment to UNSW’s values, policies, and objectives. Additionally, you bring sound knowledge of health and safety responsibilities—both psychosocial and physical—and a commitment to ongoing training in this area.
