Tractor Operator – Contracting & Farm Support

Position Overview

The Tractor Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining tractors and associated machinery within the contracting division of the business. The role also provides support for general farm duties as required, ensuring flexibility across seasonal workloads. This position requires a high level of competency in machinery operation, attention to safety, and willingness to contribute to both contracting and dairy farm operations.

Key Responsibilities

Contracting Operations

• Operate tractors and machinery for haymaking, silage, spraying, slashing, seeding, spreading, cultivation, and other contracting services.

• Perform machinery checks, maintenance, refueling, and lubrication to ensure safe and reliable operation.

• Assist with the transport of machinery, equipment, and materials to job sites.

• Maintain accurate records of job hours, fuel usage, and field operations.

• Liaise with the Contracting Manager regarding job requirements, schedules, and client needs.

• Ensure work is performed to a high standard of quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Farm Support Duties

• Assist with general farm operations including fencing, irrigation, pasture management, and livestock handling when required.

• Support dairy operations as directed, particularly during peak workloads, including feeding young stock and TMR system.

• Work collaboratively with other farm team members to achieve daily operational goals.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, ensuring safe operation of tractors and machinery.

• Report hazards, incidents, and equipment faults promptly.

• Follow environmental and biosecurity protocols across contracting and farm operations.

Teamwork & Communication

• Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

• Communicate clearly with managers and colleagues regarding job progress and issues.

• Provide support to training of junior staff or casuals in safe machinery operation.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Proven experience in tractor operation and agricultural machinery use (desirable).

• Sound mechanical knowledge and ability to perform routine maintenance.

• Current driver’s licence (HR or HC licence desirable).

• Chemical Handling / ChemCert accreditation (or willingness to obtain).

• Strong understanding of safe work practices and WHS compliance.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Flexibility to adapt between contracting and farm duties as required.
