Caring for our city, creating a future for all

Our people are passionate about their communities and connected to their teams. They’re motivated by our genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, and our clear, compelling plan for our global city: Sustainable Sydney 2030 – 2050 Continuing the Vision.

Be part of a purpose-led organisation with care at its core. You’ll make a difference by acting in the best interests of our communities and city. Be better together with collaborative and inclusive partnerships. Embrace possibilities and be open to new ideas and creating bold solutions.

About the role

Cleansing and Resource Recovery is seeking a driven individual to lead the operational activities of one of our well-respected Cleansing teams within the City of Sydney.

The important role of Team Leader is responsible for managing and organising the workplace, resolving conflict and planning tasks.

The purpose of the position is to supervise a team of operational employees to ensure street & public domain cleansing and waste collection services and service delivery to events is delivered in accordance with the defined service levels by assigning employee and plant resources effectively and efficiently. You will also support the Manager, Project & Events with major events, cleansing scope delivery and labour hire resourcing and allocation.

We are seeking a self-motivated, dedicated people-person with great communication skills, who is a champion for safety and takes pride in their work.

The following attributes are important for this role:

Verbal and non-verbal communication skills: Communication is crucial to leading a team because you will need to communicate clearly and effectively with your direct reports and your Managers.

Organisational skills: Being organised is essential, ensuring that both individuals and teams meet their service schedules. Possessing strong organisational skills will assist you in motivating your team to achieve its goals.

Ability to delegate: Team leaders must delegate tasks to individual team members. This requires the team leader to trust in the abilities of the team.

Integrity: Team leaders should lead by example. A team leader who demonstrates integrity is more likely to earn the trust and respect of the team.

Confident work ethic: Teams tend to mirror the work ethic of their leaders. So showing confidence in the task and belief in the team can help to instil a positive team spirit and culture.

Develop, Plan & Execute projects and events from inception to completion, ensuring relevant outcomes, data and reporting is clearly and consistently captured in collaboration with fellow team members.

Ensure compliance against organisational policies and regulations via induction assistance for new team members and temp workers.

Interpret, understand, and apply WHS legislation within the workplace.

Lead by example and demonstrate positive safety leadership, actively engage and promote health and safety.

Lead consultation on WHS matters, communicate with all staff and their representatives on WHS issues.

Identify, assess, control and monitor hazards within their area of responsibility.

Participate in workplace accident and incident investigations and ensure that supervisors and management are notified within regulatory time frames.
