- Partner with Senior Leaders to resolve complex employee relations cases with calm and confidence
- Continuously improve and mature our case management practice
- Full time, ongoing role, based in Hobart, Burnie, Launceston or Sydney – option of fully remote for the right candidate
About the opportunity
As a Senior Case Manager, you’ll lead the end-to-end delivery of complex employee relations cases, from investigations and disciplinary processes to performance management and grievance resolution. You will be the advisor for senior leaders, offering strategic guidance grounded in employment legislation, enterprise agreements, and University policy.
Working within a collaborative, cross-functional environment, you’ll partner with Workplace Relations, Legal, Safety & Wellbeing, and union stakeholders to ensure cases are managed with professionalism, empathy, and compliance. Your ability to influence, document, and drive resolution will be key to supporting a consistent and risk-informed approach across the University.
You will also mentor People & Wellbeing Business Partners, helping build confidence and consistency in managing sensitive employee matters. This is a role for someone who thrives on complexity, values fairness, and is passionate about shaping a workplace culture that supports wellbeing and accountability. While our preference is for the successful candidate to be based in one of our university campuses, remote working arrangements would be considered for the right applicant.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the end-to-end management of complex employee relations cases, including investigations, disciplinary processes, and performance management support.
- Provide expert guidance on employment legislation, University policies, and industrial instruments.
- Partner with people managers to develop case strategies and risk mitigation plans.
- Design and continuously improve tools, templates, processes, and frameworks to support effective management of complex employee relations matters.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives that enhance our maturity and alignment with contemporary, risk-informed practice.
What we’re looking for:
- Extensive experience managing complex employee relations matters in a large, complex organisation—ideally within higher education, government, or unionised sectors.
- Deep understanding of Australian employment legislation, industrial instruments (e.g. enterprise agreements), and case law.
- Strong experience advising and influencing senior leaders on risk and resolution pathways for complex employee relations matters.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, guide, and conduct workplace investigations, including complaint handling and grievance resolution.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and empathy.
