Security Officer Crowd Controller (Casual | 20 hrs/wk | Cairns)

NQSS is seeking a professional and reliable Security Officer (Class 1 with Crowd Controller function) to join our team in a casual role. This position is for a specific static venue role requiring consistent weekly commitment of 20 hours per week. From time to time, additional opportunities may also arise across festivals, away events and short term openings. Successful applicants will be considered for these shifts as they become available.

About the role

Casual security role, approx. 20 hours per week Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights Licensed venue environment with static crowd control duties Responsibilities include:

ID checks and compliance at entry points

Monitoring intoxication levels and patron behaviour

Crowd monitoring and ensuring safe patron flow

Applying open hand unarmed techniques when required

Using de escalation strategies consistent with the force continuum (beginning with presence and communication, progressing only when necessary to ensure safety and compliance)

Completing incident reports and working with management or police as required

Requirements

Current QLD Security Officer Class 1 licence with Crowd Controller function

Current First Aid and CPR certification

Understanding of the QLD Security Providers Act and OLGR regulations

Knowledge of duty of care obligations (taking reasonable steps to prevent harm, maintaining a safe environment, and acting in the best interests of patrons)

Professional presentation while on shift

NQSS attire must only be worn when rostered

High standards of hygiene and grooming are expected

Professional qualities including punctuality, discretion, reliability, strong communication, ability to follow instructions and calmness under pressure
