This is a unique chance to join us at an exciting time of growth, where you’ll not only support people with psychosocial disabilities to live meaningful and independent lives, but also help lay the foundations for a service that will expand and create leadership opportunities as we grow.
While primarily based at our Midland office, much of your work will be out in the community and in people’s homes, where it matters most. This role offers a salary of $114,000 per annum + Super, plus the added benefits of not-for-profit salary packaging. We welcome both part-time and full-time applicants. This role is offered as a 6-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to extend and transition to permanency.
About MIFWA
MIFWA is a leading community mental health organisation with over 30 years’ experience walking alongside people with lived and living experience, their families and communities. We’ve always been grounded in values of hope, humanity and compassion, delivering recovery-oriented and community-based supports that make a genuine difference.
Now, we’re expanding our impact by introducing dedicated clinical services that complement our peer-led and community programs. This is an exciting next chapter for MIFWA, blending our strong community foundations with new professional disciplines to provide holistic, person-centred mental health support.
About the Role
As our first dedicated Mental Health OT Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in supporting participants to achieve their goals, enhance daily functioning, and build capacity for community participation. Key Responsibilities
Conduct functional capacity assessments and develop goal-driven therapy plans
Deliver therapeutic interventions focused on emotional regulation, life skills, and community engagement
Prepare high-quality reports to support NDIS funding requests and plan reviews
Collaborate with participants, families, support coordinators, Recovery Coaches and other providers
Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous service improvement
Build relationships with internal and external stake holders
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a motivated and capable Occupational Therapist who is ready to step into a pioneering role and help shape the future of mental health OT services at MIFWA. To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
A degree in Occupational Therapy and current registration with AHPRA
At least three years’ experience as a practicing Occupational Therapist, ideally with a focus on mental health or psychosocial disability
Demonstrated experience working with NDIS participants, particularly those with psychosocial disabilities
A strong understanding of the NDIS framework, including functional assessments, goal setting, and capacity building
Commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented practice
Excellent communication, time management, and report-writing skills
The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Emerging or existing leadership capabilities, with the potential to support and mentor others as our OT service grows
What We Offer
At MIFWA, you’ll be joining a values-driven organisation where your work makes a genuine difference in people’s lives. We provide:
Flexible working arrangements across office, home, and community settings
A supportive, inclusive team culture where you’ll feel valued and connected 😊
Ongoing supervision, professional development, and opportunities to grow your expertise
Paid external supervision and full coverage of AHPRA registration fees
Access to generous not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 to increase your take-home pay
Reimbursement for work-related travel
The chance to shape and influence innovative mental health services within the NDIS framework, with scope for future leadership opportunities
