Senior Psychologist – Clinical & Forensic | EMDR Consultant
Location: Essendon, Victoria

About this role
At Cathartic Consulting, we specialise in helping clients heal from trauma, including complex trauma. We also provide services across the clinical, forensic, educational and developmental, and health domains, collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders in these areas.
This senior-level role offers the opportunity to lead, mentor, and contribute specialist expertise while delivering advanced psychological care. You will work with a wide range of clinical presentations and shape programs, supervision, and professional development within the team.
Key responsibilities include:
Deliver evidence-based assessment and intervention across a diverse range of client presentations
Provide EMDR-based, trauma-focused therapy and act as a consultant/supervisor for EMDR practitioners
Work with clinical, forensic, neurodivergent, and educational/developmental clients, providing specialist psychological support
Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to early-career psychologists and registrars
Contribute to program development in trauma, forensic, or other specialist areas
Liaise with legal professionals, courts, and other stakeholders as required
Our Essendon practice is newly renovated and designed for comfort and calm, featuring six therapy rooms, a group room, a large co-working space, a fully equipped kitchen, and onsite parking. What you’ll do
Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to psychologists, registrars, and EMDR practitioners
Undertake quality assurance reviews of reports, case formulations, and observations to ensure best practice and compliance
Provide therapeutic support and psychological interventions for clients presenting with:
Anxiety, depressive, bipolar, trauma- and stressor-related disorders
Sleep-wake, substance-related, and addictive disorders
Personality disorders and neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g., ADHD, Autism)
Obsessive-compulsive, dissociative, somatic symptom, and feeding/eating disorders
Challenges with emotional regulation, relationships, interpersonal vulnerabilities, and communication
Conduct comprehensive diagnostic and psychological assessments
Deliver individual and group interventions
Develop treatment plans, reports, and risk assessments for internal and external stakeholders
Collaborate with other professionals across clinical, forensic, educational/developmental, and health domains
Participate in organisational consultancy, program development, and training projects
Eligibility
To apply, you must:
Hold full registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA
Have a minimum of 5 years’ post-registration clinical experience
Demonstrated expertise in complex trauma and PTSD, with completion of both foundational and advanced EMDR training, and a strong interest in achieving accreditation as an EMDR Practitioner or Consultant.
Specialised endorsement (Clinical and/or Forensic Psychology preferred)
Proven experience in supervision and mentorship of psychologists and registrars
Experience working with neurodivergent clients and/or conducting forensic assessments and interventions is highly desirable
Be a permanent resident or Australian citizen
