Part-time Structural Engineer – Expert Witness Work

The role

We are seeking a part-time Structural Engineer to assist with expert witness reports. You will work two to three days per week with flexible hours and hybrid arrangements. Part work from home and part on-site when carrying out inspections. The role involves site inspections across Sydney and the preparation of high-quality technical reports.

Key duties

Forensic inspections and structural assessments

Analysis of defect causation and rectification scopes

Preparation of expert witness reports, joint reports, rebuttals and file reviews

Attendance at conclaves and evidence preparation

Limited on-site monitoring of rectification works
(Training and report templates provided)

Must have

Qualified Structural Engineer

Minimum 7 years of professional experience

Strong knowledge of NCC 2022, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 1684, AS 3700 and awareness of AS 4654.2

Excellent technical writing skills and impartiality

Driver’s licence and White Card

Good at problem-solving

Nice to have

CPEng MIEAust and NER (Structural)

Familiarity with the NSW Expert Witness Code of Conduct

Remedial and façade experience

Waterproofing diagnostics knowledge

Dilapidation reporting

Cost to complete or scheduling familiarity

Current PI insurance

BIM or finite element exposure

Prior NCAT or court experience

Hours and pay

Part-time, 2 to 3 days per week

$100 to $150 per hour, depending on experience

PAYG plus super or ABN subcontractor

Weekly pay, overtime by agreement
