We are seeking a motivated and reliable Machine Operator to drive a Skidder for our forestry operations in Byfield. This casual position will involve operating heavy machinery, maintaining the machine, and assisting with forestry-related tasks, including fire-fighting efforts when necessary. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with a passion for the outdoors and forestry work, with potential to develop further skills in fire-fighting and chemical use.

Key Responsibilities:

Skidder Operation: Safely operate and maneuver a skidder for forest maintenance and other forestry-related tasks.

Machine Maintenance: Perform daily greasing and basic maintenance of the skidder, ensuring it is in good working condition at the end of each day.

Log Book & Timesheet Completion: Accurately complete daily timesheets, documenting machine usage and work hours.

Fire-fighting Assistance: Receive training to assist the forestry team in fire-fighting efforts when needed, including but not limited to controlling fire lines and performing other fire suppression tasks.

Safety Compliance: Follow all workplace safety regulations, maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness, and wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times.

Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other forestry crew members and management to achieve project goals efficiently and safely.

Skills & Experience:

Licenses:

A valid Heavy Vehicle License is required.

An ACDC Chemical License is an advantage but willing to train.

Machine Operating Experience: Previous experience operating a skidder or similar forestry machinery is preferred, but not essential. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Firefighting Training: Willingness to undergo training for firefighting assistance in forestry operations.

Mechanical Knowledge: Basic understanding of machinery maintenance, including greasing and simple repairs.

Record Keeping: Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately maintain timesheets.

Physical Fitness: Ability to work in outdoor, rugged environments, and perform physical tasks associated with forestry operations.
