About the Company

We’re working with a mission-driven fintech in Sydney. Following growth and internal promotions, they are hiring an Engineering Lead to take full ownership of a squad of ~7 engineers.

This is a chance to step into a hands-on leadership role where you’ll shape architecture, drive delivery, and mentor engineers. All while contributing to a product that makes a genuine social impact.

The Role

As an Engineering Lead, you’ll balance technical contribution (50%) with leadership and delivery (50%). You’ll stay actively involved in coding, reviews, and architectural design, while guiding your squad’s output and growth.

You’ll have end-to-end accountability for design, implementation, and delivery, working closely with peers like the Head of Engineering and Platform Lead to shape system architecture and scaling decisions.

What You’ll Do

Lead a squad of ~7 engineers (front-end & back-end).

Stay hands-on: code reviews, pair programming, and contributing production code.

Provide architectural guidance on cloud-native, scalable systems.

Drive observability, performance metrics, and solution design.

Take full accountability for squad output and outcomes.

Mentor engineers technically and professionally; support hiring and performance management.

Proactively identify priorities and deliver without waiting for direction.

What You’ll Bring

Proven engineering leadership experience with ownership of delivery.

Strong Golang skills (commercial, side projects, or self-study).

Experience with cloud-native systems, scalability, and observability.

Strong background in distributed systems and performance optimisation.

Proactive, outcome-driven mindset and the ability to set direction independently.

Excellent communication skills; collaborative but decisive.
