The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager to provide a critical role at Langi Kal Kal Prison.
About the Business Unit

H.M. Prison Langi Kal Kal is a minimum-security men's protection prison located 140klm west of Melbourne at Trawalla. The prison's primary purpose is the reintegration and preparedness of offenders for transition to release. H.M Prison Langi Kal Kal is made up of eight separate industries: Farm, Horticulture, Landmate, Kitchen, Metal fabrication, Poultry, Textiles & Warehouse, where there is a strong focus on employment, training, and work readiness.
About the Role
The General Manager is responsible for creating and sustaining a workforce culture built on solid values, professional excellence, and teamwork. The facility contributes to a safe and just Victorian community in which people in custody are constructively engaged and challenged to use their term in custody wisely to promote the best prospects of rehabilitation, using the principles within CVs Correctional Practice Framework.
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations, the General Manager leads and manages the delivery of all correctional services to achieve the safe custody, welfare, and rehabilitation of people in our care in accordance with the policies and standards set out by the Commissioner, Corrections Victoria in the Commissioners Requirements, Deputy Commissioner Instructions and Service Delivery Outcomes.
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead by example and demonstrate in your day-to-day interactions each of the DJCS values and behaviours and be accountable for your actions.
- Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the strategic and day-to-day operations, the security, safety, rehabilitative and infrastructure requirements, and deliverables of the facility.
- Actively lead and manage the dynamic security foundation principles to promote a safe and secure prison environment by influencing direction on a range of service processes and systems to support the compliance of established standards and mandated requirements.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Extensive experience managing people, directing, overseeing, and managing daily business activities and developing and implementing effective business strategies and programs.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse the success of whole of prison programs, strategies and initiatives including the ability to critically evaluate security and offender management issues.
- Knowledge of the Corrections Act 1986 and Corrections Regulations 2019.
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software.
Qualifications/requirements
- A qualification in a Business Management related discipline or commensurate experience to meet the key accountabilities relevant to this role.
- A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence.
