A chance to make a sector-wide impact while working closely with Aboriginal leaders, artists and communities

Arnhem Northern and Kimberley Artists (ANKA) Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an experienced and hands-on leader to take up the new role of Manager Art & Culture Sustainability.

This senior position is pivotal in strengthening ANKA’s support for almost 50 Aboriginal-owned art and culture centres and more than 6,000 artists across the Top End and Kimberley. You’ll work directly with boards of directors, managers, arts workers, artists and partner organisations to champion sustainability, drive sector resilience and support cultural integrity.

The role combines strategy, program management and relationship-building with practical, day-to-day support for Aboriginal art and culture centres and artists. It’s a rare opportunity to contribute to one of Australia’s most important Indigenous-led creative sectors.

About ANKA

ANKA is the peak advocacy and support body for Aboriginal artists and art and culture centres across Arnhem Land, the Kimberley, Tiwi Islands and the Darwin–Katherine regions. For over 35 years, ANKA has strengthened sustainable Aboriginal-governed arts enterprises, supported artists’ cultural and economic futures and advocated for remote Aboriginal rights and leadership in the arts.

What you’ll do

Lead the Art & Culture Sustainability unit to deliver responsive, high-quality support to ANKA members

Work with art and culture centre boards of directors, managers and artists to strengthen governance, operations, HR, finance, safety and compliance

Coordinate ANKA’s Art & Culture Sustainability Plan (2026–29), building long-term resilience and self-determination

Secure and manage funding to expand ANKA’s capacity for member services

Design and deliver training and professional development programs for artists, managers and boards of directors

Coordinate regional meetings, the annual ANKA conference program and other key events

Produce reports, resources and advocacy that strengthen visibility and sustainability for Aboriginal art and culture centres

What you’ll bring

Relevant tertiary qualifications and strong knowledge of the Aboriginal art and culture sector

At least 3 years’ cross-cultural leadership experience, ideally with Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities

Proven capacity to provide sound governance and business advice to Aboriginal boards of directors

Strong program, project and financial management skills, including grants and reporting

Experience in designing and delivering training or professional development programs

Excellent communication, organisational and relationship management skills

A respectful, collaborative and culturally grounded leadership style

How to apply

Download the recruitment guide at the ANKA website.

Your application should include:

A cover letter (max. 2 pages) addressing the key selection criteria

A current CV (max. 4 pages)

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

Contact Hannah Williams at [email protected] for a confidential discussion.

Applications close 11 pm, 12 October.
