About the Role
We are seeking dedicated Disability Support Workers to join our team in Canberra. You will work in alignment with the NDIS Practice Standards and provide individualized support in participants’ homes and the community. Your role will focus on assisting participants to build capacity, maintain their wellbeing, and exercise choice and control over their lives.
Key Responsibilities
• Deliver person-centred support in line with participants’ NDIS plans and goals
• Provide personal care supports (showering, grooming, toileting) in a respectful and dignified manner
• Assist with daily living tasks such as meal preparation, household chores, and medication reminders
• Support participants to access and engage in community activities, appointments, and social opportunities
• Encourage independence through skill development and capacity-building activities
• Follow Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies when required
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and shift handovers
• Work in accordance with NDIS Code of Conduct, safeguarding practices, and organizational policies
• Collaborate with participants, their families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes
Requirements
• Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability), Community Services, or equivalent (or currently working towards)
• Previous experience supporting people with disabilities (preferred but not essential)
• Understanding of NDIS Code of Conduct and Practice Standards
• Current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration – ACT
• Current National Police Check (within the last 6 months)
• Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
• Valid Australian Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle with comprehensive insurance
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently, follow support plans, and maintain confidentiality
Desirable Skills & Attributes
• Experience supporting participants with complex needs, mental health, or behaviors of concern
• Ability to use technology for rostering, reporting, and communication
• Culturally aware and inclusive approach
• Flexible, reliable, and committed to participant choice and control
