Permanent Part Time position (up to 32 hours per week)

Salary Range: $97,245.14 - $105,466.60 (pro rata) per annum plus 12% superannuation

Are you passionate about creating safer environments for children and young people? We are looking for a dedicated Child Safe Advisor to join our People & Culture team to lead the way in embedding child safety across our organisation.

About this Role

The Child Safe Advisor is a specialist role that will guide the Council to ensure robust systems and processes are in place to protect the wellbeing of children and young people.

You will guide Council to strengthen systems, build capability, and ensure we are meeting legislative responsibilities with integrity and care.

You will work in all areas of Council, supporting teams to incorporate child safety into everyday practice, monitor outcomes, and report to both internal stakeholders and State government authorities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build understanding and compliance with the Victorian Child Safe Standards and embed them into Council's culture.
  • Partner with teams across Council to build capability and understanding of child safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Foster a culture of child safety and zero tolerance to child abuse and embed this into our everyday practice.
  • Promote meaningful engagement with children and families, especially in decisions that affect them.
  • Lead initiatives that drive continuous improvement in child safety practices.

About You

You are highly skilled at relationship-building across a diverse range of stakeholders and a passionate advocate for child safety. You bring deep knowledge of child safeguarding frameworks and legislation, and you know how to turn policy into practice.

You will require:

  • A degree or diploma in Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Organisational Development, Youth Work or a related field with relevant experience.
  • Sound knowledge and application of contemporary best practice approaches for safeguarding children and young people.
  • Strong understanding of the Victorian Child Safe Standards, Reportable Conduct Scheme and other relevant legislation, and have experience in their practical application across a complex work environment.
  • Demonstrated change and project management skills including high level administrative, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

All successful applicants are required to apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check and hold a valid employee Working with Children Check.
