The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Licensing Officer to provide an important role within the licensing division of Liquor Control Victoria.

About the business unit

Liquor Control Victoria was established on 1 July 2022 and comprises the independent Victorian Liquor Commission and staff from the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Liquor Control Victoria is responsible for issuing liquor licences and overseeing industry compliance and enforcement to ensure that Victorians and visitors to the state enjoy safe and responsible liquor licenced environments.

About the role

The Licensing Officer works within the Licensing Division to ensure that the assessment and determination of liquor licence applications is carried out so that the risk of alcohol related harm is minimised. Core business includes usual formal delegations to make decisions about whether or not to grant liquor licence applications, adhering to qualitative and quantitative standards, managing a high volume workload to organisational priorities, and answering applicant and licensee queries.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Assess, investigate, and respond to routine enquiries and requests for information from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform a range of administrative functions including the storage and retrieval of files and responding to general inquiries.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies or procedures in a regulatory environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • High-level communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
