About the Role
A rewarding opportunity is available for a dedicated and community-focused professional to join Council as a Ranger/Compliance Officer.
In this diverse role, you will play a key part in ensuring the safety and environmental compliance of our community. Your day-to-day duties will involve a dynamic mix of fieldwork and administrative tasks, often requiring adaptability and quick decision making. No two days are the same and duties can be varied and occasionally unpredictable, taking you across the Greater Hume area to respond to community needs, conduct inspection, investigate complaints and upload Council regulations.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Animal control, welfare education and management of impounding of animals
- Stock management and related community engagement
- Monitoring and inspecting onsite sewage management systems
- Investigating and reporting minor environmental offences
- Enforcing Council's local laws, policies and relevant legislation
- Responding to public complaints and emergency incidents, and
- Building strong, collaborative relationships with partner agencies.
This is a high-responsibility role that requires excellent communication skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage sensitive or high-pressure situations with confidence, discretion and professionalism.
About You
We are looking for someone who is highly adaptable, brings a proactive attitude and understands the importance of working in accordance with legislation and policy. You will have:
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Companion Animals Act and Regulations and the Local Government Act Orders and Approvals Regulations
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, conflict resolution and negotiation and public presentations and community education
- Ability and willingness to respond to emergency call outs when on-call and participate in a rotating on-call roster
- Demonstrated experience in handling an array of animals
- Demonstrated skills to carry out onsite sewage system inspections, and
- Ability to work in a team and build strong external relationships with partner agencies.
You will also hold the following:
- Traffic Control
- Current White Card
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current Firearms Licence – Current NSW A & B Firearms Licence, or ability to obtain a NSW Commissioner Permit, and
- Current class 'MR' drivers licence.

- Salary in the range of f $1,482.40 to $1,660.30 gross per 38-hour week
- Roster is based on a 9-day fortnight working arrangement with one week on-call on a rotating roster
- On-call allowance when rostered on-call
