We are seeking a motivated and reliable Drill Rig Operator / Laboratory Technician to join our team. This dual-role position involves operating and maintaining field drilling equipment as well as conducting laboratory testing of collected soil samples. The successful candidate will support site investigations, geotechnical assessments, and quality control programs, ensuring accurate and safe operations both in the field and the laboratory.
Australian work rights are required for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Drill Rig Operations
Operate and maintain drill rig (auger rig mounted on a 4WD), associated vehicle, and support equipment.
Collect soil and other geotechnical samples in accordance with standard procedures.
Assist with site preparation, set-up, and pack-down of equipment.
Conduct daily pre-start inspections, routine servicing, and minor repairs.
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to safe work practices on site.
Laboratory Testing
Receive and prepare soil samples for testing.
Perform standard geotechnical and materials tests (e.g., moisture content, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, shrink swell).
Accurately record and report results in accordance with the Australian standards.
Calibrate, maintain, and check laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy.
Skills and Qualifications
Previous experience in drilling, sampling, or laboratory testing (preferred but not essential – training can be provided).
Mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate heavy equipment.
Understanding of geotechnical, environmental, or construction materials testing procedures.
Ability to work in both outdoor field environments and indoor laboratory settings.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record keeping.
Current driver's licence.
White Card and relevant industry tickets (e.g., First Aid) desirable
